Ashbourne Wednesday night netball - week 1

Play in the Ashbourne Wednesday Netball League

Ashbourne – The new season of the Ashbourne Wednesday Netball League began in exciting fashion this week, with teams across the League returning to the court for an evening full of competitive matches, impressive teamwork, and plenty of memorable moments. The opening round of fixtures provided an encouraging start to the campaign, with players showing great enthusiasm and determination from the very first whistle.

One of the standout performances of the evening came from Ash & Dash, who secured an impressive 22 - 9 victory over Sling It Sisters. Ash & Dash settled into the game quickly and produced a confident attacking display, moving the ball effectively through the court and creating a number of well-worked scoring opportunities. Their sharp movement and teamwork helped them maintain control throughout the match and record the highest score of the week. Sling It Sisters continued to battle throughout the contest and showed resilience against a very strong opposition side.

Another entertaining fixture saw The Ash-tonishers narrowly overcome Nets Get Physical in a closely fought 14 - 12 encounter. The match remained competitive throughout, with both teams exchanging goals and momentum at different stages of the game. Strong defensive pressure and determined attacking play from both sides made this one of the most exciting contests of the evening, with The Ash-tonishers eventually doing enough to edge the result.

Still Playing and Bourne Lucky also produced a closely contested match, with Bourne Lucky claiming a hard-earned 13 - 11 victory. Both teams showed excellent commitment and teamwork across the court, making for an enjoyable and competitive game that remained in the balance until the closing moments. Still Playing can take plenty of positives from a strong performance despite the narrow defeat.

This week's Most Valued Player award went to Hannah Hallam of Ash & Dash, whose excellent all-round display played a key role in her team's success. Her movement, consistency, and contribution throughout the game stood out across the evening's fixtures and earned her well-deserved recognition.

Players and spectators are also reminded to be mindful of their language and conduct both on and around the court. The league aims to provide a welcoming, respectful, and enjoyable environment for everyone involved, and all teams are encouraged to support this positive atmosphere throughout the season.

With the opening week now complete, teams will already be looking ahead to the next round of matches as they continue building momentum early in the season. The standard of play on display suggests the Ashbourne Wednesday League is set for another enjoyable and competitive campaign, with plenty of close contests and exciting moments still to come.
