Thrills and Spills as Newport Wednesday Netball League Kicks Off Season
The Newport Wednesday netball league got underway this week with a lively and enjoyable first round of fixtures. There was a great mix of competitive play, teamwork, and positive energy across the evening, setting a strong tone for the rest of the season.
One of the closest matches of the night saw Ball Snatchers take on Jump! Jump! in a well-balanced contest. Both teams showed great effort and determination, with neither side able to pull ahead. The game finished in a 6–6 draw, reflecting how evenly matched the teams were throughout.
Caught Offside faced Irreplaceaballs in another competitive fixture. Both teams worked hard across the court, creating good opportunities and showing strong defensive play. Irreplaceaballs managed to edge the game 9–7, but Caught Offside can take plenty of positives from their performance. A standout contribution came from Stephanie Edgar, who was named Most Valued Player of the week for her effort and consistency across the match.
Court Queens played FireBallz in a game where Court Queens were able to build momentum and take their chances well, securing a 16–5 win. FireBallz continued to show great spirit and kept working throughout the match.
In the final game, Goalden Girls faced Block It Like Its Hot. Goalden Girls found a strong rhythm and produced a confident performance to win 17–4, with good movement and teamwork across the court.
Overall, it was a positive and enjoyable start to the season, with all teams contributing to a friendly and competitive atmosphere. There’s plenty to build on as the league progresses, and it will be great to see how teams develop over the coming weeks.
