Play in the Newport Wednesday You Play netball league
Week five of the Newport Wednesday netball league delivered another exciting evening of competitive action, with teams continuing to showcase excellent teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship across a series of closely contested matches. As the season progresses, the League is proving to be highly competitive, with every point becoming increasingly important and teams continuing to push each other week after week.
The evening began with a hard-fought encounter between Caught Offside and Block It Like It’s Hot. Both teams produced an excellent display of defensive netball in a closely matched contest that finished 6-6. Neither side was able to gain a decisive advantage, with strong interceptions, disciplined defending, and patient attacking play keeping the game evenly balanced throughout. The draw reflected the effort and quality shown by both teams, who battled tirelessly from the opening whistle until the final moments.
Ball Snatchers followed with one of the standout performances of the evening, recording a convincing 7-2 victory over FireBallz. Ball Snatchers controlled much of the game through sharp passing, organised movement, and quick transitions in attack. Their defensive pressure also proved difficult for FireBallz to break down, helping them secure an impressive result. FireBallz continued to compete positively throughout the match and showed great determination despite the final scoreline.
Another tightly contested fixture saw Jump! Jump! take on Goalden Girls in a game that remained competitive from start to finish. Both sides demonstrated strong teamwork and composure under pressure, with neither team willing to give an inch defensively. The match ended in a 4-4 draw, a fair result after an entertaining contest where both teams created opportunities but were met by resilient defending at either end of the court.
The final game of the night saw Court Queens produce an excellent attacking display as they secured a 13-7 victory over Irreplaceaballs. Court Queens moved the ball confidently through the court and made the most of their scoring opportunities, maintaining a strong tempo throughout the match. Irreplaceaballs continued to battle hard and showed plenty of spirit, but Court Queens’ attacking rhythm and teamwork ultimately proved decisive in securing the win.
A special mention this week goes to Sarah Furniss from Block It Like It’s Hot, who was deservedly named the week’s Most Valued Player. Sarah delivered an outstanding individual performance during her side’s draw against Caught Offside, showing excellent movement, composure, and defensive awareness throughout the game. Her all-round contribution played a major role in helping her team secure a valuable point, and her effort and attitude on court made her a deserving recipient of the award.
As week five comes to a close, the Newport Wednesday netball league continues to provide an enjoyable and competitive environment for all teams involved. With several closely fought matches and strong performances across the League, the season is shaping up to be an exciting one, and there is still plenty to play for in the weeks ahead.
