Week 8 of the Newport Wednesday Netball League delivered another evening of competitive and enjoyable action, with teams continuing to battle for valuable points as the season approaches its closing stages.
We would also like to thank all of the players for their understanding and commitment to playing outdoors during the exam period. Throughout the day, we remained in regular contact with the school, who carried out several inspections of the courts, with the final check taking place at approximately 6pm. On each occasion, the courts were confirmed as safe to play on. The school also advised that pupils had been using the courts for PE lessons during the day, and had the surface been considered unsafe, those sessions would not have taken place. As always, if weather conditions change after the league has started, it is the responsibility of the umpires to assess the courts and make a decision on whether it is safe for play to continue.
One of the closest matches of the week saw Irreplaceaballs and Caught Offside share the points in an entertaining 8-8 draw. Both teams produced strong performances throughout, resulting in a well-earned outcome for each side. Elsewhere, Ball Snatchers edged past Jump! Jump! with a narrow 8-7 victory in a closely contested game that could have gone either way.
Court Queens enjoyed a successful evening, recording a 15-1 win against FireBallz thanks to an excellent team display. Goalden Girls also put in a strong performance, securing a 10-3 victory over Block It Like Its Hot and continuing their positive run of form.
Lynne Muffitt of Jump! Jump! was named Most Valued Player of the Week following an outstanding individual performance. Her effort, determination and contribution throughout the match made her a deserving recipient of the award.
Court Queens finished the week as the League's highest-scoring team, reflecting a strong all-round performance and excellent teamwork on the night.
With only a few weeks remaining in the season, the Newport Wednesday Netball League continues to provide plenty of competitive matches, memorable moments and impressive individual performances. We look forward to seeing how the teams finish their campaigns in the weeks ahead.
