Week 9 of the Gloucester Sunday Social Netball League took place at Oxstalls Campus, with teams continuing their seasons in another evening of competitive and enjoyable netball. As the league moves towards the latter stages of the campaign, teams are looking to build consistency and finish the season strongly, resulting in a number of closely contested and hard-fought matches.
Ball Busters 9–8 Ball Of Fame
The opening fixture of the evening provided the closest contest of the night as Ball Busters narrowly defeated Ball Of Fame 9–8.
Both teams were evenly matched throughout the game, with neither side able to establish a significant advantage. Strong defensive work and disciplined play kept scoring opportunities limited, resulting in a tense and competitive encounter from start to finish.
As the match entered its closing stages, Ball Busters managed to edge ahead and hold onto their lead to secure a one-goal victory. Ball Of Fame pushed hard until the final whistle and can take plenty of positives from a strong performance despite falling just short.
Goal Diggers 21–7 Throw And Go
Goal Diggers continued their season with an impressive 21–7 win over Throw And Go.
From the early stages of the match, Goal Diggers moved the ball confidently through the court and converted their chances effectively in the shooting circle. Their consistent attacking play allowed them to build a lead and maintain control throughout the game.
Throw And Go continued to compete and showed good determination across all four quarters. Despite the result, they continued to work hard and produced some positive passages of play against a strong opponent.
Pitch Slap 20–10 Net Ninjas
The final game of the evening saw Pitch Slap take on Net Ninjas, with Pitch Slap securing a 20–10 victory.
The match featured good intensity from both teams, with Net Ninjas remaining competitive throughout the contest. Pitch Slap were able to create scoring opportunities regularly and made the most of their possession to gradually extend their advantage.
Net Ninjas continued to battle throughout the game and produced some strong moments of their own, but Pitch Slap's consistency across the court ultimately proved decisive.
Congratulations to Sophie Butcher from Net Ninjas, who was named Week 9's Most Valued Player.
Sophie delivered an excellent individual performance and was a key contributor throughout her team's match. Her movement, positioning and work rate stood out on the night, while her attitude and commitment earned recognition from players across the league.
Week 9 produced a mixture of close contests and high-scoring performances, with teams continuing to compete strongly as the season progresses. The one-goal game between Ball Busters and Ball Of Fame was a particular highlight, while Goal Diggers and Pitch Slap both recorded important victories.
With just a few weeks remaining in the season, every fixture becomes increasingly important as teams look to finish as high up the league standings as possible. Players continue to show great commitment each week, contributing to a competitive and enjoyable atmosphere at Oxstalls Campus.
Attention now turns to Week 10, where teams will once again take to the court looking to build on their performances and add more points to their season totals.
